How it came about…

Posted by: anny   in Anny, Thanks4Caring Info

Do you know someone who gives generously to others? Someone who does so selflessly, and without expectation of thanks or reward? Someone who does good work and deeds just because it makes someone happy? Someone who cares about others and shows it in the way they live their life?

Well, this site is about that someone. Here’s how it came about…

My 93 year old father is nearing the end of his life, and he’s unable to stand on his own, he’s exhausted and fading. My siblings and I have kept him at home and work hard to provide basic care that we hope helps preserve his dignity and keeps him as comfortable as possible. But I fear there is little true joy in his life, save when his great granddaughter toddles into his room.

Ruth and DadHowever, every once in a while, Ruth (dad’s granddaughter by marriage) comes in to give dad a pedicure. My sister and I were taking a much needed break while Ruth tended to dad, and as we walked by the door of his room we peeked in to see the most beautiful, joyful, happy smile on my dad’s face while Ruth gleefully washed, lotioned and massaged his old wrinkled, fungusy feet. That look of joy on my father’s face will stay with me long past the memories of his pain and exhaustion.

I was so grateful to Ruth for bringing such a wonderful period of joy to dad’s otherwise rather uncomfortable and fading life, and I thought how great it would be to have a place to tell people about this selfless act of caring she offered, to let others know how wonderful a gift she’s offered, and maybe even to surprise her with an unexpected gift to show our thanks.

And that’s where the idea for this site came from! At Thanks4Caring.com have created a place for you to tell us about your someone, your Ruth, the person who you know that’s made a difference just because they know it will help someone else. Each month we’ll take nominations from anybody who cares to contribute a story about someone who has demonstrated this type of selfless caring. You can post your story of your “Good Samaritan”, and tell the world how their caring has affected those around them. At the end of each month, we will pick an entry we find to be most representative and will award the nominated person a special Thanks4Caring gift such as a spa visit or a gift certificate. Something just for her or him. And we’ll feature that story on our lead page for the rest of the month.

Now all stories within our site guidelines will be visible on the site for at least a month, so even if your special person isn’t our Thanks4Caring person of the month, their story will be published for people to see and hear, and you can link your blog or web page back to their story on Thanks4Caring.com.

So, next time you’re amazed by someone caring and giving - please come back here and share their story!
